Happy Holidays From Mama Jenn

Dear Holiday Child,

I am so glad to meet you here and welcome you into my heart and home this New Year’s Eve.  I don’t know if I’ll be able to stay awake until Midnight, but will certainly try!  I may not know you, but I’m sharing with you all the love I have for my own little daughter.  She turns four in just a few weeks and I am so proud of her emerging brilliant, shining being. I hope you, my adopted holiday child, can feel that pride and acceptance extended to you.

I am very lucky to live just a block from the beach and so have access to the wonderful ocean year round, no matter the weather.  On the last day of the year, I love to bundle up and walk down at low tide.  I hope you can see yourself with me and my daughter, outside in the powerful wind and breathing deep the salt air.  We can walk and talk while she jumps in puddles and picks up little hermit crabs.  The presence of the water in winter is just amazing.  My adopted child, my loved one, I hope you can see yourself as a part of this ritual.  I know it’s all the better for you having been here.

If you are thinking, ‘oh great, another year on it’s way, more loneliness, more sadness, more isolation’ because you are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, questioning…and are not free to express the wonderful you that you are, I want you to know, I care so deeply for you.  Even though you don’t really know me, as your Mom just for today, I’m here, listening, loving, and celebrating you.  There is a place set for you with love. I see you for who you are and want you to feel the nurturing I offer my own.

We’ll enjoy a great dinner tonight.  I’d be grateful to have an extra hand in the kitchen, but I suspect my daughter will take you away for a game of cars and pipes.  She will delight you I guarantee.  As the Sun sets on the last night of 2012, we’ll have the TV on, looking to follow the festivities in New York most likely.  We’ll all pile in the living room on our big overstuffed couch.

Right before the glittering crystal ball drops, I’ll get the special toasting glasses out, they’re really beautiful.  You’ll see the etching in them that is meant to evoke the lovely sea.  We’ll have our toast of course, can you taste it?  …To new beginnings, to an opening of the world’s heart, to love and not holding back, may the love, tenderness and strength of my heart be with you today and whenever you need it.

Love Always…..

Mama Jenn
