Your Holiday Mom: Mama Sarah

My sweet, sweet Holiday Child,

It’s that time of year again…the time between Halloween and next year’s Halloween J You know I always have such an affinity towards Halloween, but Thanksgiving and Christmas are much more enjoyable with you and your energy.

This year has gone by quickly, just as every year has. It’s had its fair share of up’s and down’s, but I hope your contagious smile and joyous laugh has carried you through. Just remember that I am always here if you ever need a shoulder to lean on. You are always welcome here anytime you need a reprieve from the day to day. We love you so very much for exactly who you are. You are brave, you are loving, you are special. Sometimes when everyone gets busy with their day to day, they forget that they have a special reason for being in this world – yours is to bring joy to everyone you encounter. Your smile, demeanor, and that sparkle in your eyes brighten the world around you. Never lose that sparkle, never let anyone dim that sparkle.

Thanksgiving we’ll spend at Grandma’s & Grandpa’s house then over to Aunt Marsha’s. Cory and Jesse are coming down with the girls to stay with us all weekend. We decided to scale down Friendsgiving this year and will only have a few close friends over – we’re still deciding on the theme, I think we’ve settled on Friedsgiving! Scot is going to deep fry the turkey! Maybe while you’re home, we can put up the Christmas tree. I know, I know…Not like me to want to put it up a month early, but with how busy everyone is, this may be the only time we’re all together before Christmas. And before you know it, it’ll be New Year’s Eve and we’ll all be back to the hustle and bustle of jobs, life, and friends then it’ll be the holidays all over again.

See you soon!!

Hey there my names Milly but I prefer to be called Jay I identity as bisexual and am bigender. Being the sexuality is very hard where I’m from anyone will judge you no matter who trys to stop them the only person who knows is my guy friend and he’s bi too. My nan is very homophobic and says it’s stupid to like two genders. I lost my mom two years ago and she said she would support me no matter what. My friend that knows I’m bi is trying to get me with this girl I really like. But I’m afraid of what my family will say cause it’s already hard enough. All my aunties and uncles on my moms side aren’t talking to me cause my dad got a girlfriend I can’t even spend Christmas with my cousins. It’s been really hard these past few years and my depression isn’t helping. I know this is disgusting but I’ve resorted to smoking to try to help me I just want to feel excepted for who I am. Thank you.

    • Auntie Hay says:

      Hi Jay,
I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am thinking about you this morning.
I’m so sorry about your moms passing, and the turmoil it seems to be causing in your family. It seems very unfair for your family to not speak to you because of your dads choices, but I hope with time they will come around. They are the ones missing out; your presence and love are a gift they won’t get to receive.
Please know that there are many like me, here and around the world, who can see your beautiful heart, who love and accept you just as you are, and would be honored to spend the holidays with you.
      Take care, Jay
      Auntie Hay

    • Mama Sarah says:

      Hi Jay!

I’m so happy you’ve stopped by, you’re always welcome here and we will love you and accept you for exactly who you are and who you desire to be. Your sexuality doesn’t define you here, your heart, characteristics, behaviors, and interactions with others defines you. And you’re incredible to me.

I’m sorry you’ve lost your mom, I can imagine that has been very difficult for you and the added stress of your fathers recent behaviors I’m sure are weighing on you. But rest assure you are worthy of love and acceptance from family, friends and those you encounter.

I’m happy to hear you have a good friend on your side. And they seem like someone who cares about you.

I hope you’re able to find some peace during the holidays and start 2018 out with your bright smile. We all love you! Hugs from my heart to yours <3

Happy to be apart of each others worlds for 3 years now..allot of our family did not go to our wedding and some even refused. 8. Hannah says:

This is so beautiful. I found this website through Instagram. So thankful! I’ll read these letters every day. it’s very hard being closeted not even knowing yourself, or what you want. thank you for the support. it’s really needed right now. I need some happiness in my life.

    • Brigid says:

      Hi Hannah,

You are so welcome!!! Thanks for your lovely note.

Getting to know our true selves can be a long process sometimes. It happens earlier for some and later for others and that’s all perfectly normal. Give yourself time. Be kind to yourself. You deserve kindness in your life as well as happiness.

As for being closeted, that’s ok too. Once you have a better idea of who you are deep down, a time may come when you feel you can share your wonderful news with friends and family (or maybe just certain people at first). There is no rush there either. Everyone has their own pace and you’ll get to know yours. It’s all good.

So glad you found us here at Your Holiday Mom. Our aim is to help you feel welcome, accepted and loved. You are a beautiful person, Hannah, and deserve to be happy. The world is a brighter place because of you!

Sending love and hugs your way!

    • Mama Sarah says:

      Hi Hannah!
We’re glad you’re here and we will give you support and acceptance through your journey, wherever that journey takes you. Sometimes as you’re going through life, you feel you don’t know which path to take, how to define your individualality, or who you are. But that’s what makes you you. The kind, bright human that you are. Spend time discovering who you are, what makes you tick, what excites you and energized you. Self discover and focusing on self awareness isn’t selfish, it’s self care and self love.
I hope you come back often! Hugs from my heart to yours <3

          Dear Aileen,
          You are very welcome!
I’m sorry to hear that your family jokes about the way you look. Sometimes families can be hurtful without knowing it, and need to be reminded that jokes can hurt.

I’m sorry to hear that Aileen; no one deserves to be made into a joke based on their looks and choices in life. You seem to have a beautiful personality and a kind heart. You are always welcomed here and have a safe place with nothing but love <3

  10. Brigid says:

  11. Han says:

Right now I’m halfway across the world from home, choked up in a library having read this very first post.

My parents do not know that I am gay, and it is likely they never will because I understand their opinions enough to know that I would never be accepted if I told them. But reading this gave me some hope, and it gave me a glimpse of what acceptance looked like.

Thank you so much for this — it definitely gave me warmth I needed for today.

    • Mama Sarah says:

      Hello Han!

I hope my love and acceptance of your choices comes through my Letter. You aren’t alone in your journey, all of the Holiday Moms and Holiday Families are here for you! Cheering you on, accepting you, and loving you! Acceptance looks different for many, and acceptance can grow into a welcoming warmth from those you love the most. Hugs from my heart to yours <3
